    Mrs. Julaine Kammrath

Greetings!
In summer you might find me in my perennial garden. In fall, I might be working on a quilt. In winter I’d be cozied up with a book, our spaniel Pip at my feet. In spring I might be writing something for CPH or another Christian publisher at the table under the big casement window. But always, I’d be thinking about children. They pop into my mind, especially as God directs my prayers in the moment. I’ve been teaching children now for nearly two decades from a start in Chicago to Cleveland, and back to Chicago. I took time off then to raise our 3 kids, sending them by train to St. John’s because even back then, St. John’s reputation was stellar! After 7 years here, my Lutheran teacher husband took our family to Hong Kong International School, the largest Lutheran school in the world!

We returned when our oldest was about ready to head to college and launched her from Florida. She came back to Chicago. We launched the second; he came back to Chicago. We launched the third; she came back to Illinois. So, not long later, we came back to Chicago too! We did try a stint in N. Carolina, but once again, came back to Chicago and now here I am where we started with our own children. We made a good choice. I think you have also!

Upcoming
*Spelling/Memory work starts Monday with tests on Friday
*Curriculum Night: Thursday 7:00 (we’ll have an opening with the principal
followed by time with each of your child’s teachers)

What’s Up?
--During that first day supply sorting, Jordan made us laugh as she tried to write on the tiny tab papers and keep up with all that we were doing. Tough task!

--Sam’s though we should have the rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. We modified that to be specific and K Crew rules are:
1. Keep your hands/feet to yourself unless you’re being a neighbor
2. Say only encouraging, positive things
3. Include others by socializing
4. Be courteous and helpful to others
5. Only use others’ stuff with permission
(Now if only nations would follow the rules your kids made up)

--In the “Let me Introduce You” game Bella ended up pulling a hair out of my head!

--Maddie almost broke the page barrier in 15 minutes of writing in our first writing class.

--Josh and Macki got the Chinese T puzzle together after I gave the class a hint

--Lauren made the best track with her pencil as Sam encouraged her. We were finding out how encouragement compared with discouraging comments regarding work produced.

--Hannah surprised us—she was reading The BFG at home and didn’t know that I’d started reading it to the class. (She kept the secret about the bubbles)

--Edward offered to help carry stuff back from the writing class so he got a “Way to Go” coupon. Five gets you a treat.

--Thanks already to Mrs. Saegesser for volunteering to type stories. I’m hoping others will also return the sheet I’m sending home Friday. (please…please…please)
