“Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas.”
~ Albert Einstein
When we encounter a problem that involves quantity, structure, space, or change, we reach the solution by utilizing mathematics. The name “mathematics” traces back to the Greek μάθημα (máthēma), which means learning, study, and science. Although we learn about math in the classroom, we apply its principles in our daily lives, often without realizing it. For instance, in the grocery store we use arithmetic to calculate the total bill. The pool player demonstrates an understanding of Euclidean geometry. Sharing is the art of fractions.
Like the study of a foreign language, mathematics builds on its previous lessons. At St. John Lutheran School our students develop a strong foundation in the maths, preparing them for the courses they will encounter in high school and beyond. Our math program is tailored to the individual student, who may choose to study at the intermediate or advanced pace.
The laws of nature are but the mathematical thoughts of God.
