Judy Mahoney - Mathematics
A native of Minnesota, Judy graduated from Augustana College, Sioux Falls where she majored in mathematics, secondary education and special education for the deaf.

Judy’s first teaching positions were with deaf students where she taught mathematics using sign language. While at Augustana she taught at the South Dakota School for the Deaf; interned at Gallaudet College in Washington, DC and a school in Florida for learning disabled children. Judy’s first position after graduation was as a high school mathematics teacher at the New Jersey School For The Deaf. She has New Jersey teacher accreditation. In addition to teaching she was department chairman, rewrote the state mathematics curriculum for deaf students and guest lectured on teaching methods for deaf students at Columbia University. She also worked at Rutgers University writing a beginning math series for low functioning, older students. Before returning to the Midwest she also began to set up the math program for deaf-blind students.

Judy has been active in the Wheaton area in both public and private schools. She has been treasurer and vice president of PTA and has now taught over ten years at St. John Lutheran where she is chairman of the Math Department. She is a LCMS commissioned minister. In addition to her math duties at St. John she has also started a sign language club for interested students, a competitive math team and is school advisor for the student council. She has been nominated three times to Who’s Who of Teachers and attended numerous professional workshops most notably an exchange trip to China in 2006 to study middle school education.
