Classroom Music at St. John
Music is a gift from God that people of all ages enjoy! Through music class, children are given the opportunity to learn about different kinds of music from around the world, understand and use musical concepts, and to perform small selections on unpitched percussion, orff, and boomwacker instruments!
Preschool Music
Children ages 3-4 receive music once a week. Here we learn about music through movement, dancing, and singing. Instrument identification, the difference between loud and soft, and keeping the beat are all concepts that are covered.
Elementary Music
In the elementary grades, music class focuses on age-appropriate skills and concetps. Through singing, dancing, playing instruments, and movement, children gain a greater understanding of how music works and the effect it has on their lives.
5th Grade General Music
The 5th graders this year will learn about a variety of different musical genres. For the first semester we traveled around the world and U.S. to study musical types and instrumentation. In the second semester we will look at different genres such as jazz, rock, electronic, and popular music. Finally, we will study the style of the American musical.
