We are fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14)
Fearfully and wonderfully made!
St. John Lutheran School is a school where Christ is at the center of all we do and all that we learn. God's Word is the truth by which we live. As such we value each child as a uniquely created being. Psalm 139:13-14 tells us that God knew each of us even before we were born. He made us, loves us, and watches over us! We are special because of WHOSE we are! In every curricular area, we see God at the center of the subject matter! We acknowledge that God has equipped each of us with special gifts! Good stewardship of these gifts is our responsibility and our privilege in response to the love He has given us!
Integrated Curriculum Units
First Grade students learn best when all of their learning modalities are addressed. As such we integrate the content areas to include the various disciplines using auditory, visual, and kinesthetic approaches to presenting the subject matter. Hands-on learning is at its best! Some of the integrated units for this year include:
1. All About Me
2. Living and Non-living Things
3. Seeds/Plants
4. Pilgrims and the First
Thanksgiving
5. Christmas Around the World
6. Senses/The Human Body
7. Seasons/Weather
8. Embryology/Life Cycles
9. Insects
10. Dinosaurs
Field Trips
When introducing or concluding any of our units, we endeavor to connect our learning with the world around us. To that end, we arrange in-class speakers and off-campus field trips to give children the opportunity to make those connections.
Some of the trips scheduled for this school year are as follows:
- Karen Ritter: Speaker from
Karen's Nature Tales.
- Kline Creek Farm for Fall
Harvest Progam
- Graue Mill and Museum
