- St. John Lutheran School is a fully accredited school through the State of Illinois and the National Lutheran Schools Association.
- All teachers at St. John Lutheran School are fully certified by the State of Illinois.
- St. John Lutheran School has a curriculum that conforms to state guidelines.
- St. John Lutheran School has been part of the Wheaton community since 1955.
- St. John Lutheran School is supported spiritually and financially by St. John Lutheran Church. The church was established in Wheaton in 1865.
- St. John has Preschool, Pre Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and 1st – 8th grades.
- St. John has had a full-day Kindergarten program since 1998.
- 6 teachers at St. John have their Master’s Degrees.
- St. John has a reading specialist.
- Religion instruction is incorporated throughout the day in each class.
- Each class chooses a mission to support during the year. The students learn about the mission and support it with chapel offerings.
- Students attend chapel once a week. Parents are always welcome to join us!
- Art and music are taught in all grades.
- Spanish is taught in grades 4-8.
- Students have physical education class 4 days a week.
- Middle school students (5-8) participate in Fine Arts each day. They may choose from a combination of band, choir, art, and drama.
- Standardized tests are given annually in grades 2-7. 8th grade students are given placement tests for high school.
- Approximately 75% of 8th grade students enroll in high school advanced placement classes. This has been a consistent percentage over the past several years.
- St. John has a computer lab. Additionally, a portable cart brings wireless laptops into the classrooms.
- Smartboards are used in several classrooms for enhanced learning.
- Band begins in 5thgrade. Most students participate in the band program through 8thgrade. Lesson instruction is done in school during the school day.
- Junior Girls and Junior Boys choirs are offered for grades 2-4. Girls Choir and Boys choir are offered for grades 5-8.
- Extra curricular athletics begin in 5th grade. Cross Country (4 time LSA State Champs!), volleyball, basketball, and track.
- St. John has a thriving chess club.
- Spanish club is offered to grades K-3
- PTL and Boosters are enthusiastic parent organizations.
- The Hot Lunch Program prepares nutritious meals each day in our own school kitchen.
- Middle school students participate in the Science Fair. The projects incorporate science, language arts, and technology. Every year we have been blessed to have a number of students continue on to the Regional and State levels.
- 6th graders spend a week at Walcamp.
- 7th graders spend two days at Turkey Run State Park.
